Job Description

Job Title : Monticello Senior Center Director

Reports to : CEO

FUNCTION: The Director oversees the coordination and administration of all aspects of the Monticello Senior Center including planning, organizing, staffing, leading, and controlling center programs and activities

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Planning

  • Coordinate the planning, organizing and implementation of senior adult activities.
  • Plan and coordinate Center’s programs, fundraisers, and special events with senior volunteers.
  • Collaborate with other Senior Community Services Senior Center Directors in the development of quality programs and services.
  • Coordinate Dinner Program – Secure partnerships and work closely with area restaurants to provide the meals. Recruit, supervise, and maintain contact with dining volunteers, prepare reports as needed. Prepare monthly menus.
  • Ensure maintenance of the center (cleaning, repairs, etc).
  • Develop an evaluation framework to assess the strengths of the Monticello Senior Center and to identify areas for improvement.

Organizing

  • Organize volunteers to work on community events.
  • Oversee the collection and maintenance of records of programs and participation rates.

Staffing/Volunteers

  • Recruit, coordinate, supervise, and recognize volunteers for the Center’s operation, Board of Directors members, Receptionist, Dining Volunteers, etc.
  • Maintain records of volunteers and their hours.
  • Work with other Senior Community Services’ Senior Center Directors to develop an annual training workshop for various volunteer positions (i.e. receptionists, story theater groups, advisory boards, trip escorts, etc.).

Leading

  • Cultivate relationships with stakeholders, including the City of Monticello, social service agencies, individual donors, current and prospective funders, churches, civic organizations, seniors and their families, and other members of community organizations and city staff to offer a broad array of services and activities for the older adult.
  • Facilitate meetings and trainings.
  • Develop, coordinate and implement public relations, marketing and communications plan (e.g. Write and submit the weekly senior center newspaper column and quarterly Community Education, prepare monthly newsletter and update website).
  • Represent Senior Community Services/Monticello Senior Center through public speaking at City Council meetings, rotary clubs, foundations, churches, etc.
  • Attend monthly Senior Community Services Senior Center Director meetings.
  • Participate in the Minnesota Association of Senior Services organization for both professional development and for interaction with other Senior Center Directors throughout the state of Minnesota.
  • Work closely with HOME, Caregiver, and Tech Support staff and volunteers
  • Provide information and referral to service area
  • Provide staff support to the Monticello Senior Center Board of Directors and Executive Committee.

Controlling

  • Develop and monitor annual senior center budget.
  • Pay bills and deposit program funds as needed.
  • Maintain contact with funding sources through yearly written report.
  • Identify and evaluate the risks associated with the Monticello Senior Center activities and take appropriate action to control the risks.

Other duties as assigned .

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree in recreation, geriatrics, social work, social services management or a closely related field.  Minimum of 3 years’ experience in program planning and service delivery for senior adults.  CPR certified or willing to become.  Qualified Food Operator certification or willing to obtain and agree to maintain such certification. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications.  Passion for the mission and vision of Senior Community Services.

Starting Salary Range $62,000 – $65,000
